Children’s Medical Center Legacy–
breaking ground!

The familiar red-balloon logo coupled with a 92-year history of pediatric excellence at Children’s Medical Center Dallas is expanding north to a second location on a 68.7-acre site at the southwest corner of Preston and Hedgcoxe in Legacy. Children’s Medical Center Legacy will break ground on October 26, 2005, on a $102 million hospital. Current project plans include 72 beds, an urgent/emergency care center, four operating rooms, full-service laboratory and comprehensive radiologic services. Children’s Medical Center Legacy is projected to open in early 2008.

Children’s Medical Center Dallas and Children’s Medical Center Legacy, when opened, will be the only academic healthcare facilities in North Texas dedicated exclusively to the comprehensive care of children from birth to age 18. Children’s Medical Center Dallas is one of the largest pediatric providers in the nation. Both hospitals are affiliated with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, a world-class teaching and research institution.

Children’s Medical Center Legacy will primarily serve patients in Collin, Cooke, Denton, Fannin and Grayson counties. These counties have some of the fastest-growing pediatric populations in the country, increasing at a rate more than eight times the national average. In 2004, more than 31,000 patients from the Legacy region were seen at Children’s, for everything from tubes and asthma to heart transplants and leukemia. By the time the hospital opens, it is estimated that more than 600,000 children will live in the Legacy area.

“The dramatic growth north of the Dallas County line, particularly in the pediatric population, compels us to develop a strong and vital presence in this region,” said Christopher J. Durovich, president and CEO of Children’s. “Our investment in the area is testimony to the hospital’s commitment to provide the finest in pediatric care to all children in North Texas.” More information about Children’s is available at www.childrens.com.
